Topic: Non-marking tyres

Hello all

Is there a market for non-marking tyres.  That is, when you turn around on concrete you don't leave your signature.  I know you can get thin solid tyres but they won't be much good in sand.  What do people think?  Do you do work where a non-marking tyre would leave a good impression?

Good to have the forum back.

Re: Non-marking tyres

Hi Ant,
I'd use them if they were available, cost effective and lasted reasonable hours. It's something that customers may not notice at the time, but a marketing point you could highlight during quoting etc to help win the job.

Re: Non-marking tyres

I have never seen non-marking tyres that are pneumatic.  Solids are available but not much chop for dirt work.

In time the marks wash away but pack a broom it will half the look.

Re: Non-marking tyres

Hi Guys,

Have a talk with the guys at The Big Tyre Company in Toowoomba, I believe they are able to do that type of nonmarking retread but need a fair quantity of tyres to do it, was talking about it to one of the guys there when I had a set of Trelleborgs retreaded a couple of years ago. I run my retreads inside my red 3" polytraxx, haven't check the hours on them for awhile they are only about half worn after 2 years with a close estimate of about 1500hrs + on them.

Re: Non-marking tyres

Hi Ant..
Non marking tyres are available and mostly of solid construction they are no good for any bucket or tile removal work .I use these for indoor concrete polisihing or profiling.Because they are solid they have very little give and if you use a scraper it will put extra load on the frount of the machine and the constant shock waves limit the life of the pins and other macine components so be aware of that.

Re: Non-marking tyres

Hi Guys
Thanks for replying. I'm aware that solid tyres don't do well in loose sand.  I've got a 2 t truck on pneumatic tyres that doesn't do so well either.
I like the pack a broom comment and halve the mess.  Unfortunately, with my clients I would be getting a full letter from their lawyer.
There must be a market for non-marking tyres.  I've emailed Big Tyre and I will let you know what is going on.

Re: Non-marking tyres

Gidday Fellas,
Yeh, Id like non marking tyres too but I've done a lot of work on concrete drive ways lately and just by keeping  the wheels turning all the time instead of skidding, I seem to mark less. At any rate any marks seem to wash off in time if you give em a hose fairly quickly.

Re: Non-marking tyres

I went and bought some used rubber conveyer belt that I lay down on pebble mix driveways to avoid skid marks (on the concrete!)  It works fine, the machine turns easily and no marks, cost me $120 for about 20 metres.  Cut it shorter for ease of handling, just roll it up and take it with me when needed.  No good for wet weather on a grade though as it becomes very slippery.  I have also used it to cross nice lawn I didn't want to tear up.  I have lug tyres only.
