Topic: Poly Trax

Hi Guys,
I was having one of my many discussions today with one of the other operators in Adelaide regarding the old red poly trax. The basics of this are that ours have got to the end of their useful life, I've managed to get three dingo's worth out of mine but they're now at the stage where you have to have your wits about you when you turn or run the risk of running them off the wheels, it's a total pain when putting the machine on the trailer on the bitumen. I've had a go with the new black ones, but they don't work as well in gluggy mud plus they take a lot longer to put on. I leave my wheel spacers on as much as possible, which means it only takes about 10 mins from grabbing the tools out of the truck to putting the tools back in to fit the tracks. Do you know if they are still made, or is it possible to put bushes in every hole with new bolts? I'm open to ideas, I put new bolts in mine a couple of years ago which helped, but as far as chores go that really sucked.

Re: Poly Trax

Hi Richard,

We had a tensioner/puller made to help put on the new tracks. We have the new black ones, which are friggen difficult to put on - we actually ended up cutting the pads themselves so the were slightly narrower with spaces in between each one. This had the bonus of making it so the tensioner would fit more snugly thus requiring less jiggling around to get it in between the pads. The tensioner we had made was based off the one that came with the tracks (which broke almost immediately). The new one is solid steel all over, and is operated with a ratchet spanner or similar device (last time we used the rattle gun on the compressor). Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Marty
