Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

This would probably be the best place for new members (and oldies) to chuck in a few lines about themselves to introduce who they are, where they are, how long you've been in the game, what equipment you operate.

I'm happy to kick it off.
Brendan.  Bought a used k9-3 kit off a contractor about 18months or so ago (G'day Dave! - "The Guru").  Operate from Maleny, Sunshine Coast.  Started off with a job one a fortnight or so, then once a week, then a couple etc. etc.  Now working almost full time with good relationships with a Landscaping mob, some builders and plumbers.  Plenty of private stuff as well through our local business directory and business cards around the place.

Operate by trying to do the best by each customer, including recommending the right machine if they haven't got a clue.  Happy to jump on the shovels etc. when needed.   Been through a fair learning curve but still learning almost every job.  I see a real increase in limited access stuff as more and more tradies prefer to use machines wherever possible.  Even in our fairly rural area there are still plenty of jobs in back yards that would otherwise be done by wheelbarrow and shovel.  people don't seem to have the time any more, they want it done - today.

That'll do for now, I'm off to bed.

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

I had a rather large job to tackle and have "bitten the bullet" and purchased a Dingo to assist in the erection of a considerable amount of my own rural fencing as well as branching out into contract fencing at a later date. The K9-3 petrol does a mighty job and with the hot weather in WA hasn't missed a beat except when we get closed down on Harvest Ban Days. I have modified my Dingo almost from day 1 with a good strong toolbox (off a John Deere tractor) on the opposite side to the fuel tank as ther just wasn't any room to carry and "bits & pieces" so something for the backroom boys to consider perhaps as an optional extra. The next thing is a decent rear vison mirror for when I am unrolling wire on the patented wire unroller which means long runs (up to 500m) driving backwards down the fenceline. The neck gets a bit tired swivelling around all the time.
The forum is a good spot to interact with other Dingo owners and if there are any other fencers out there drop me a line and perhaps we can share some secrets that will make life a little easier. It is finally cool enough to get some shuteye so I'm off.

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Welcome aboard Navvy. I reckon the toolbox idea has got to be a first! Can't say I've ever heard of that one. Closest I ever heard of was a magnetic tray to throw any nails or screws you picked up into, to keep them out of harms way, rather then throw them somewhere nearby to picked up by your tyres later.
A rear view mirror??? mmmm I'd modify the "patented wire unroller" to drop into the big hole in the foot plate (sorry patent already applied for  big_smile  big_smile  big_smile ) and drive the machine forward. Out of curiousity, has anyone mentioned the "hidden" third gear on K9-3's to you? It may be of great benefit to you on those long runs.

And....WTF is a "Harvest Ban Day"????

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hi every one, my name is jim.
I was just doin some research into the wide world of The Dingo as i just hired on to do some small work around my  house, and i really did enjoy it so i thought i'd look around for a second hand puppy to get started up slowly, on weekends and as i work afternoon shifts mornings as requirred and if possible? I have been in the earthmoving/quarrying games for about 8 years but with the life of our current quarry limited it's time to think of the future and i think this is it.
im still unsure of wether to go for the k93 or k94 ,is there a major diff  all advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for this forum and the way you fellas help each other out is great
cheers

thanks

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

G'day Jim and welcome to the forum,
I started 2 years ago with a 2nd hand k93 kit and have never looked back.  Luckily I had some money left over from selling a house that kept us going while the business built up though.

Where are you?  I think a lot will depend on your area.  I cannot compare the k93 and 4 as I haven't operated a 4 but I'm sure those that own one would say it's good.  I've become very used to the 3 with a kohler but would be happy to try diesel next.

I reckon you should have good signage and a bit of advertising.  Make sure you are SEEN around your area.  I often get calls from people who are following me or trying to hail me down in between jobs.  A few signs left at punters properties while your working there is also good.

Then you have to offer great service.  How you do that is up to you.  You will learn that great service doesn't necessarily mean doing every job that comes along.  Up here in the mountains, some places are just too dangerous.  Some jobs are better suited to a bobcat or excavator.  We also suffer a bit when we get extended periods of rain.  It would be good to have something to generate some cash during those periods.  A website, properly set up can be great and fairly inexpensive as well.

I think you definately need a trencher and posthole digger as most punters seem to associate them with Dingos.  If you can get in with concretors, plumbers, landscapers and the odd sparky (what's that?  they're all odd?) you'll get work too.  I have a sign in the local landscape yard so as the punters order their top soil, dust, roadbase etc, they see my smiling face as they drive home thinking about how they're going to move it.

God luck anyway, you'll get plenty of good advice here. tongue

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Gday,

Just had a bit of a look through the forum topics and already learned a few tricks.  I love my petrol K93 which I've had for about a year after buying it from my brother who was called to the West by BIG machines!  Great to have a place to look for tips and also offer one or 2 picked up along the way.  Our machines really surprise the public when you show them what they can do!

It does appear though that most forumers are from Qld?....or haven't I looked hard enough?

All the best

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hi Guys,
JB & Jim, welcome aboard.
JB - I don't know whether most of us are from QLD, it just seems that we have the most to say. I think that comes from our branch being so accessible to us all. By that I mean not only are the guys helpful & friendly , but also the fact that it's pretty much just an hours drive or so for quite a lot of us. With Brisvegas not being as congested as other southern cities it doesn't seem such a pain in the arse to go in there.

Jim - I too started with a second hand machine (The one Macca now owns) and upgraded to a younger (but still second hand) diesel K93 Pro (Perkins) a couple of years ago. I was pretty much in the same boat as you. Bought the machine whilst still holding down a job. Worked it on weekends, and whenever my shift allowed me to. I was fortunate enough to be mentored by a top bloke and Dingo operator (Shaun from Bears Little Diggers...thanks mate), and was fed work from him, and other local ops (thanks to you guys too, Mick, Craig and Craig). It took me 2 years part-time before I bit the bullet and went all out. Mate, I have never looked back since! Sure there's been some scary times but by and large, I love it.

I myself prefer the K9-3's. Cause I'm a smaller (in height at least) guy, I find it easier to see over the top of a 93. I find, and it's only because of what I'm used to, that the 94 "feels" bigger and more cumbersome. Each have there own advantages through specification, but either can and will earn it's keep.

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hello Dingo people, I too have made it back onto the forum. Took some time to convince myself as I have a few unresloved issues with my machine but good to see a few familiar names around. I moved to Ballandean near Stanthorpe 18 months ago and have just started pushing the earthworks again. I have got the gig with the local council and I thought beauty , plenty of cushy jobs on the way . So far I have dug 5 graves in 4 weeks , while the work is good if it goes at that rate the place will be empty soon ......

Cheers
Shaun

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hi Guys
Top site this I have already learnt heaps. Currently I'm looking at machine options for moving fire wood so am researching machines. It's good to see plenty of info sharing any thoughts on my intended use and particular machine would be appreciated.
Cheers
Charles

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hi Syxx,
K9-4 sounds like a go for that one. Only because it has a heavier lift capabilty. I was going to suggest "another" brand that can lift more, but didn't want to confuse the issue about which bit goes on the fire.  big_smile  wink  lol  lol  lol  lol

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hiya Stxx,

Have a look at the pallet lifter/mover, It's probably not what you want ( maybe its the ducks guts for ya !)
or the forklift attch maybe .
But if your thinking is " outside the square" anything is possible

cheers
Barney

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Firewood.  For your own use or the firewood business.  Personally I have a steel box that I fill with wood and carry on the forklift and simply place it on the verandah.  Verandah is about 800mm high.
And of coarse I have a Dingo log splitter that is the ducks guts.  And I load  blocks onto the tipper six wheeler with the Dingo as well.
Then simply split it as I unload as that saves lifting it again.  just work from the back of the ute.  the log splitter works at all heights.  and if the block is huge, you simply bend the splitter over it on the ground and don't lift it at all.

I'm going to ignore that request.  Don't need any more "nutty" ideas.

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

I have to agree Gary. Whilst it is an absolutely wicked piece of gear, I couldn't see the demand here in Australia being too great.

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Thats one sweet piece of machinery.
I was looking more at lifting logs than cut and split fire wood so k94 for lifting?

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hey Syxx,
Go back to the home page, click attachments, and watch the video clip for the "3in1 Grab"!
There's all your answers and ideal setup for you right there!
K9-4's SWL lift capability is 325kg, as opposed to k9-3's 250kg.

Re: The New Dingo Australia Forum!

Hi Everyone,
I was a member of the old forum and joined this one as soon as i found out it was a goer. I bought a used K9-4 with a petrol Kohler from Dingo Townsville about two years ago. Not used as a business, just on my rural residental block and sometimes for a neighbour.
I first came across a dingo when I worked for a house remover in the early to mid 1990s. Very impressed when he bought it with its capability to dig postholes, move steel beams and drive lifting jacks from its hydraulics and moving dirt, sand etc. I think it had a Honda engine but don't remember any other details.
I like to read all the forum posts and get ideas to use myself. I have bought these attachments: trencher, post hole digger, forks, mixer, 4way bucket, and made a spreader myself.
This is my first post so thought I should write one instead of just reading posts.
Regards, Gerry
