Topic: Who's got a truck?

OK Dingo Legends,
Looking for your thoughts on small tippers to tow my Dingo kit around with.  The 4x4 is fine except for when you also want to take a cement mixer and a pile of extra tools, maybe a metre or two of concrete blend etc.

Do those of you with trucks keep your Dingo trailer or do you load all of your gear onto the truck - or both?

What small tipper work well?  Which don't?  Narrow cabs?  Wider cabs?  I have used a narrow cab little Dyna tipper on some of the landscaping jobs and it's great for squeezing in between houses with loads of mulch etc.

Re: Who's got a truck?

a tipper opens up a whole new world of making money ie rubbish removal, fill removal to name just a few at times I have been paid to get rid of the fill and than paid to supply it at the other end its a good earner when you can get it. other times I have been paid to get rid of fill than to be paid to level or place behind the new retaining wall its a win win situation. It has opened a lot of more avenues for me. I have a Hino Dutro 4.5 tonne GVM. this truck is driven with a car licence  which means I can have a beer  smile  smile  smile  smile  smile  with the customer at the end of the job. in N.S.W. trucks over 4.5tonne GVM have a .02 blood alcohol level. as I also have an excavator most times I take both truck and trailor its good advertising excavator on trailor dingo on truck

Re: Who's got a truck?

Same, I have a Mazda Titan (T3500) import, narrow truck . The fact that it is only 1.6mt wide has been a bonus on a number of jobs. One job , on acerage I was used by a bobcat operator to truck in 45cubes of fill as access was only 1.7 metres and he was in the yard in his machine while I filled my truck with the dingo and dumped for him. Only other option was to go back and forth with the Bobcat . It has power window , Air and power ster , cost me 14500 with reg and a towbar , I have put 90000km on it now and , touch wood, have had no major problems. I too carry the dingo on the back with the excavator and attachments on the trailer

Cheers

Re: Who's got a truck?

Started with a two ton Jap import narrow Toyota Dyna Tipper.  Carried 1.5 ton excavator in back with a tandom trailer with the full dingo kit.  Lasted well and was very strong, until I drowned it in some floods last year and received a insurance payout.  Was a fantastic truck, but found the longer I was in the business, the more I out grew it.

Have since bought a five ton Izusu FSR500 94 tipper.  It was a ex army truck (refrigerated pantec).  The dealer I bourght it from put a 4.1 metre tipper on it.  At the rear of the cab is a one metre wide rack which carries the trencher, augers, power heads and fuel.  Being a bigger truck, it can carry the whole kit (excavator and dingo and attachments).  Its also much better on fuel even though the engine is a 7.1 litre six cylinder desiel.  The best part is I don't need, and have since sold my trailer.  Has made life much easier, and great for cartage (dump runs, pick ups from landscape yards etc.)  The bigger truck has made life much easier and from a customers view point seems to give you more credibility with your hourly rate.  The down side is you need to upgrade to a HR truck, licence if you don't have one, and also rego and insurance is higher.  From  my point of view the positives far out weigh the negatives.

Re: Who's got a truck?

Andrew I have often thought of getting a bigger truck but I advertise as a limited access specialist so the small truck is better for me and as we all know the smaller the truck the longer it takes to do the job so the more I get paid to do the same job.

Re: Who's got a truck?

I put a tipping kit on my 02 4x4 Rodeo and beefed up the suspension, it's quite happy to take 1.5-1.7t. The beauty of this is because it's a " 1 tonner " I don't have to pay for any tipping up here in Hervey Bay & because it's 4x4 I Can get it in some very crappy sites.
I've thought about buying a bigger tipper but this serves myself & the customer well.

Re: Who's got a truck?

I've got a 02 Hino Dutro. 4.5t GVM so just a car licence jobbie. Been meaning to set the tray up to carry the setup in the back, but still haven't got around to it. She only has an electric/hydraulic tip mechanism, but that suits me just fine, as I tend to avoid jobs that involve carting heaps of crap away. When she's running on song (still haven't tracked down a intermittent sensor fault), she pulls like a freight train.

Re: Who's got a truck?

I have dutro 5500 dump and 4.5t trailer with everything on trailer. This allows me to cart drainage sand, soil in and spoil out on way home while still chargeing appropriate fees. Really up to you as to how you want to set up

Re: Who's got a truck?

I ended up getting a new Isuzu NPR 300 end of last year, best thing I have done after getting the dingo a few years back. Being a turbo diesel I use less fuel with the truck towing the dingo than my ute did, with less effort and can put all the tools on as well. Some jobs we've had a mixer, 2 barrows, a whacker, hand tools, power tools, and materials on a ute towing the dingo trailer. Now the truck does it easy. Only thing is you need to be organised and vigilant with being tidy, as the more room you have the more stuff you cram on or just throw things on the back.

Currently tossing up whether to boot the trailer and get some ramps for the truck, it would create room issues though if all the tools were on there as well, with a big toolbox at the back.

If you can afford a truck it's very worth it. If you have a cheap fill dumping place nearby and you don;t have a heap of soil to cart away it ends up a lot cheaper than loading bins, same with rubbish.

Re: Who's got a truck?

Wouldnt be with out my truck.
Its an 86 toyota dualcab dyna 6 tonne GVM but its been known to go 7T or better.
Paperwork, laser level, cable locator, & other s**t live in the back seat
I tow my single axle Dingo trailer with a Kobelco SK10SR 1T Excavator on the trailer & my dog lives on the truck.I relaced the bucket position on the trailer with an alluminium toolbox to fit more s**t.

The tipper tray will fit my K93, bucket, trencher & blade aswell as my ramps & border collie. All strategically placed.
If  a plumber wants  crusher dust it goes on aswell( I load all the stuff on top of the dust)

Ive also got pipe racks so I can bring all the s**t needed for the job.
Plumbers around here love the fact that I carry nearly all the gear.

The trailer is topped out weight wise but the truck handles the weight & tows well.(aslong as there are no hills nearby).

I use the truck for to remove, concrete, rubbish, dirt & bring in fill & what ever I need for the job.

I really couldnt do business without it.
